With the Support of CGH Earth, One of the Oldest Tea Estates in Munnar Is Now Open to Tourists

Extending its hospitality services to the tea landscape of Munnar, India, CGH Earth Experience Hotels – a responsible tourism and hospitality chain – launched Lockhart Bungalow in one of the oldest tea estates in the region, Lockhart Estate (founded in 1879).

Nestled in 1,500 acres, Lockhart Bungalow is located amid lush green slopes and mountain views at Lockhart Estate, featuring a three-bedroom, colonial-style structure that was originally built in the 1940s.

CGH Earth – which consists of numerous properties and destinations – carefully restored and refurbished the bungalow to recreate the charm of a “planter's life from a bygone era, offering the hospitality of an authentic tea plantation bungalow.” Cuisine at the tea bungalow, an integral offering at all CGH properties, includes a curated menu of international, Indian and traditional dishes.

The property, which is now available for bookings, also comes equipped with a library at the estate and offers experiences such as tea tasting sessions at the Lockhart Tea Factory, trekking and guided nature tours.

“We wanted to offer the slow luxuries of a planter's life to our guests, where they can enjoy mountain views as they sip on Lockhart tea and coffee brews, drown themselves in books, discover a rich repository of flora and fauna in the region, savor the best of culinary experiences, or just enjoy the art of doing nothing,” said Mridula Jose, vice president of product development and marketing at CGH Earth.

CGH Earth and its experiences focus on environmental sensitivity, benefiting the community, and “being local.”

The company has a collection of 17 unique holiday resorts and four curated wellness retreats, drawing inspiration from the knowledge and practice of the local community. Local architecture, people, cuisine, costumes, knowledge, tradition and customs are all woven into the experiences.

CGH Earth said it strives to create a sense of wonder for guests, staff and the local community alike.
