World Tea Expo International Exhibitors Say They’re Excited for the 2023 Event and Ready to Connect

Jay Shree Tea & Industries Ltd., one of the leading producers of quality Indian teas and tea planters since 1945, will be one of the many prominent international exhibitors at the upcoming World Tea Conference + Expo.

Jay Shree owns 19 tea estates in Darjeeling, Assam, Dooars and Cachar, and boasts an export span of more than 45 countries. The company – which maintains all international standards and certifications in organic production, Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance and sustainability – offers a wide assortment of green, white, black and oolong teas, as well as naturally flavored teas created by its team of master blenders. In addition, the company noted that it set a new direct-to-consumer vision, and it offers loose-leaf tea and a range of packet teas under the brand names Bagicha, Puttabong and Birla Tea.

Attendees of the upcoming World Tea Conference + Expo will not only discover tea businesses from India – such as Jay Shree – they’ll get to know companies and products from China, Japan, Canada, Sri Lanka, Kenya, El Salvador, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Jamaica, Nepal, Poland and across the United States.

The event will take place March 27-29 in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Convention Center, and it’ll be co-located with the annual Bar & Restaurant Expo.

A Strong International Presence – Nepal, Tanzania and Many More

At the 2023 World Tea Conference + Expo, Nepal will also showcase its high-quality teas to buyers.

“Nepalese orthodox tea is the culmination of the suitable climate, elevation, fertile soil and organic agriculture practice, which results in its exquisite flavor palette,” said Gobinda Bahadur Karkee, joint secretary for the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies for the government of Nepal. “This year, the Nepalese tea industry will have a significant presence at the World Tea Expo in Las Vegas, USA, which offers a unique opportunity for tea buyers from around the world to experience the finest blends of tea from the foothills of the Himalayas. We are hoping for a productive engagement between potential buyers and exporters of the Nepalese orthodox tea.”

In addition to Nepal, Tanzania will make an impact on the World Tea Conference + Expo show floor with Kazi Yetu.

Kazi Yetu (which means “our work” in Swahili) is a tea blender and packer based in Tanzania with a goal to improve the livelihoods of farmers and to create jobs for women in the world of tea, herbs and spices.

With a range of exotic, sustainably sourced and traceable tea blends with environmentally friendly packaging, Kazi Yetu is targeting the growing “conscious” consumer market.

“With our innovative QR code, our tea blends and each ingredient can be traced from farm to factory to cup,” explained Tahira Nizari, co-founder and director of Kazi Yetu Ltd. “What is even more exciting: This year, Kazi Yetu is representing the entire tea industry from Tanzania! Through the Tea Board of Tanzania, we've been working with tea farms, processors and blenders to bring an array of samples from across Tanzania to World Tea Expo. We are excited to increase awareness of the characteristics of Tanzanian teas from favorable climates, altitudes and environmental conditions, from the lush Southern Highlands to the hills and mountains in the north, including the famous Mt. Kilimanjaro!”

According to Nizari, Kazi Yetu has been working with a local farmer cooperative in northern Tanzania to establish a specialty tea processing facility that will impact thousands of farmers with better prices and market opportunities. The company’s work is a result of a project funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies in partnership with CARE International.

“This facility will produce organic-certified orthodox black and green tea grades, bringing a new player to the table – and this time it's the farmers themselves,” shared Nizari. “We are announcing this for the first time at the World Tea Expo and can't wait to speak to folks that are interested to learn more about our impact, plans and opportunities to work together!”

‘We Value the Opportunity to Connect and Learn from People in the Industry’

Also on the exhibitor roster is India’s Dweller Pvt. Ltd., a first-time participant at the World Tea Conference + Expo.

“Dweller is a grassroots initiative based in North-east India,” said Elizabeth Yambem, founder of Dweller, which specializes in making a range of indigenous herbal ingredients and infusions. “It's going to be our first time at the World Tea Conference + Expo, and we value the opportunity to connect and learn from people in the industry, to take indigenous flavors to the global stage, while making a sustainable difference to the local community."

Dweller sources fresh produce from growers and wild collectors and they’re made into high-quality ingredients for Dweller Teas. In fact, more than 92 percent of the ingredients they use are brought to life by "Dweller makers." Overall, the company believes in a future where all people and plants have a chance to thrive, and they pledge to plant one million indigenous plants in partnership with local communities, to preserve indigenous plants for grassroots good and to naturally delight customers with every sip. The company offers indigenous teas, caffeine-free teas, black teas, fruit and herbal teas, green teas and more.

Shalini Agarwal, president of Glenburn Tea Direct, a longtime exhibitor of the World Tea Conference + Expo, will also showcase its high-quality teas from India.

“Reconnecting with old friends and customers, making new connections, attending interesting seminars, and feeling the excitement of a community passionate about the business and the brew has kept us returning since 2011,” noted Agarwal, whose company was set-up by the Prakash family, a dynasty with a 100-year tradition of growing and manufacturing tea.

“Glenburn Tea Direct is the U.S. branch of a family-run business – planters for the last 100 years – with farms in the premium tea growing regions of India,” explained Agarwal. “Glenburn Tea Direct’s goal is to empower tea merchants around the world to provide the freshest possible tea to their customers. It is a way to connect the people who grow the tea to the people who drink it.”

At their booth, Glenburn Tea Direct will offer tastings of seasonal Assam and Darjeeling teas, brewed both hot and cold, as well as some new and innovative green Darjeeling teas that are processed via a Chinese pan-fried method. They’ll also offer a talk and tasting at 2 p.m. each day of the expo. “The combination of the Bar & Restaurant show with World Tea Expo brings together two industries with much to gain from each other – adding a new dimension and synergy of vendors and customers at both shows,” said Agarwal.

‘We Are Happy to Participate Again’

From the United States, Harney & Sons Fine Teas will once again showcase its tea offerings at the Las Vegas event. “We are happy to participate again, as we have done from the beginning,” said Michael Harney, vice president and master tea buyer and blender of Harney & Sons, who’s also a published author and tea educator.
