Teatulia Is Among the Great Taste Winners of 2020

Great Taste – a global food and drink awards program – announced its stars of 2020. Out of 12,777 products submitted from 106 different countries, Teatulia UK was awarded a 1-star Great Taste award for its Organic Jasmine Green loose-leaf tea and its Organic Chamomile Flower Infusion. Teatulia was also awarded a 2-star Great Taste award for its Organic Oolong loose leaf tea and its Organic White loose-leaf tea.

Judged by 144 discerning palates – belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs, buyers, retailers and producers, as well as food writers and journalists – Great Taste is a coveted food and drink award. This year’s winners were revealed through a combination of remote judging and socially-distanced judging sessions, after the lockdown began just one week into the schedule.

Teatulia UK CEO Ahsan Akbar noted, “We are thrilled that our Jasmine Green tea has won a Great Taste star for a second year. We’re especially pleased that our White Tea and Oolong have won 2 stars, which is a real credit to our team at our garden in Bangladesh.”

Recognized as a stamp of excellence among consumers and retailers alike, Great Taste values taste above all else, with no regard for branding and packaging. Whether it is cake, coffee, kippers or kombucha being judged, all products are removed from their wrapper, jar, box or bottle before being tasted. The judges then savor, confer and re-taste to decide which products are worthy of a 1-, 2- or 3-star award.

Of the 12,777 entries into Great Taste this year, 205 were awarded a3-star, 1,294 received a 2-star and 3,818 were awarded a 1-star accolade. Numerous tea companies won accolades this year, in addition to Teatulia UK, and the complete list can be found here: GreatTasteAwards.co.uk.

Is Tea Becoming More Expensive?

In a recent article, The Wall Street Journal reported that tea is becoming more expensive, yet more people are reaching for a cup of tea during the pandemic.

According to the article by reporter Lucy Craymer: “Remote working arrangements and other home routines established during the coronavirus pandemic have led more people to reach for cups of tea, which is consumed in larger amounts world-wide than any drink other than water. But supplies of tea leaves are tightening, due to bad weather in some producer countries, labor shortages, port closures and other logistical issues.
