Tea Tibet, a recently launched and utterly new concept, wins two industry awards at this years’ Natural Products Expo East. Winning both the Most Innovative Product and Best of the Press Awards, is a tremendous honor and achievement for this first of its kind, 100% non-profit tea company. Launched in the spring of 2013 as a cause-related project of Portland-based Kombucha Wonder Drink, Tea Tibet’s sole mission is to produce the very best tea for the benefit of the Tibetan people. All profits (100%) from Tea Tibet support Tibetan educational projects, schools and orphanages.
A Passionate Ideal… Steeped in Tibetan Tradition
Tea Tibet came to be when renowned Tibetan healer, Dr. Tashi Rabten approached veteran tea expert, Stephen Lee, co-founder of five tea brands including; Stash & Tazo, and now Kombucha Wonder Drink to spearhead this unprecedented project. Their combined expertise and unrelenting passion resulted in what is now called Tea Tibet.
Using the finest organic, fair traded teas from the Darjeeling Region of India’s Himalayan foothills along with botanicals from around the world, Tea Tibet’s initial (and now award-winning!) offering consists of five flavors: Compassion (Darjeeling), Peace (Herbal Infusion), Harmony (Spiced Tea), Kindness (Green Tea), and Happiness (Oolong Tea). The packaging pays tribute to the five primary colors of the Tibetan prayer flag and consumers may request a free mini-prayer flag from the company. Each unique blend has been carefully crafted under the stewardship of Lee and offers superior appearance, taste, and aroma. Currently distributed through UNFI, these fine teas are available in over 400 stores nation-wide with that number expected to triple by year’s end.
“We are both humbled and overjoyed by this tremendous media recognition and by that of our peers,” says Tea Tibet co-founder, Stephen Lee. “Tea Tibet is very special to all of us, and for our young project to be recognized and embraced immediately further reinforces the importance of the goals and the world’s commitment to the betterment of Tibet and its people. We are indeed leveraging change, one sip at a time.”
