VAHDAM Supports India with $50,000 for COVID-19 Relief Fund

India is currently in a state of deep crisis with the COVID-19 pandemic, as it witnesses a collapse of its healthcare system with a second deadly wave of the disease. The massive surge in the number of COVID cases has led to the country’s medical infrastructure being stretched bare thin, acute shortages of hospital beds and people gasping for breath, as they’ve run out of oxygen cylinders and face a lack of prescribed medicines and more.

In light of these times, VAHDAM has partnered with the non-profit organization, Doctors For You, to crowdfund a global COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund on the crowdfunding platform Ketto, to help facilitate increased aid and relief efforts in several Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities across India.

The proceeds of this fund will be used to set up more temporary COVID-19 treatment facilities, to get more supply of oxygen cylinders and oxygen concentrators for critical cases, to facilitate rapid vaccination programs, and to help provide prescribed medication to people in dire need.

Doctors For You is a pan India humanitarian organization with international presence, and it works in various disaster hit zones. The organization focuses on providing medical care to vulnerable communities during crisis and non-crisis situations, emergency medical aid to people affected by natural disaster, conflicts and epidemics. They are also committed to reducing disaster risk by delivering trainings and development in emergency preparedness and response.

To kickstart the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund, VAHDAM donated US$50,000.

“It is devastating to see the worsening COVID-19 crisis in India,” said Bala Sarda, founder and CEO of VAHDAM India. “We’re requesting all our global partners and customers to support us in this initiative. This is a small effort from our side to help people in distress. Entire proceeds of this campaign will be donated to Doctors For You.”

Last year, VAHDAM launched a Tea Estate Workers Relief Fund in partnership with Child Rights and You, to provide relief at tea estates when the pandemic had just hit the nation. In addition, they had donated more than $300,000 worth of teas to frontline medical workers in the United States and India, and had also distributed Family Ration Packs, Hygiene Kits and Sanitizers to more than 1,100 tea growers’ families.
