Eco-friendly Tea Packaging Is on the Rise Around the World, Per New Research

According to research and consulting firm Future Market Insights (FMI), the worldwide utilization of eco-friendly tea packaging remained at around US$6.2 billion in 2021 and is scheduled to increase at a CAGR of 4.5 percent to arrive at a valuation of US$10 billion by 2032.

The new data is based on the recently published FMI report, Eco-friendly Tea Packaging Market Outlook (2022-2032).

“Growing preference for biodegradable packaging solutions across the globe, along with growing consumption of organic teas in emerging economies, will fuel sales in the market over the forecast period,” said an FMI analyst in a statement.

Eco-friendly tea packaging solutions that keep freshness and odor of the product over time are in high demand, noted the firm. In fact, a range of more durable tea packaging is consistently being launched to maintain the aromatic smell of the product, moisture and temperature. Antibacterial tea packaging also protects packaged items from direct contact, which can lead to bacterial contamination and infections.

FMI added that the paper segment, compared to other materials, will develop faster due to its low cost and environmental sustainability.

“The density, gloss-coating and opacity of the paper can all be used to assess its quality,” said FMI. “Tea is packaged in paper because it has a lower impact on the environment than any type of packaging, because it contains no chemicals or undergoes chlorine treatment. As a result, the paper industry will expand at a faster rate [in this market].”

Key Takeaways from the New FMI Research:

  • Based on material, the paper segment, in relation to the tea industry, is expected to account for 33 percent of the total market share in 2022.
  • In terms of packaging format, sales of bags and sacks for tea will increase at a 3.9 percent CAGR over the assessment period.
  • The U.S. eco-friendly tea packaging market will reach a valuation of US$900 million in 2022.
  • During the forecast period, India’s eco-friendly tea packaging market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.1 percent
