Dezerai Seitzer is the owner and founder of online tea retailer, Global Teas and has found the perfect avenue to address both her love of tea and helping humanity.
Founded in 2012, Global Teas was birthed out of a combination of owner and founder Dezerai Seitzer’s passion for good tea and for helping change people's lives. A frequently volunteer at at non-profits, Seitzer is also a frequent traveler. After spending a couple years living and working abroad, she returned to the US with a mission of wanting to accomplish larger work to continue supporting the non-profits she had met and worked with in various parts of the world.
Seitzer has long been passionate about tea knew she wanted to incorporate tea into her future business plans. Seitzer muses, “I've traveled extensively in many different parts of the world, and have found that No matter where I go, tea is a common denominator that can be shared across all cultural lines.” Thus, the decision was made to combine those two passions and start Global Teas; "teas to change the world."
Currently sourcing teas from India and Guatemala, $1 of every pouch of Global Teas purchased goes to 3 non-profits who are changing the world. These organizations fight human trafficking (Destiny Rescue), clear UXOs from the fields of Laos (Legacies of War), and send medical supplies and set up remote clinics all over the world (Medical Ministries International).
Global Teas currently packs its whole leaf tea in pyramid sachets and packaged them in kraft paper, foil lined, re-sealable pouches. Once the tea pouch is open, it can easily be resealed to keep the tea fresh.
One of Global Tea’s most popular products is the unique Darjeeling Green. Seitzer explains, “We've found that many people who dislike the "seaweedy" characteristics typical in Japanese & Chinese green tea, can enjoy the more earthy, hay like characteristics in the green tea from Darjeeling”.
“By offering people the opportunity to give back through the purchase of tea, I hope to turn the small amount of money I can donate as an individual each year, into the collective power of money from people all across the US,” says Seitzer, speaking of the overall mission of Global Teas. “Small acts, when done by many, can change the world.”
