On Aug. 29, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Mountain Mel’s, has recalled three of its teas because of possible Salmonella contamination. The Welches, Oregon-based company produces organic herbal teas, lip balm, hand sanitizer and salve.
The three teas were formulated and marketed for the purposes of increasing milk flow in nursing mothers and alleviating digestive discomfort in babies.
Salmonella is anorganism that can potentially cause serious and even fatal infections inchildren, the elderly and those with weak immune systems, says the FDA. Commonsymptoms in healthy people who are infected with Salmonella are: a fever, diarrhea (which may contain blood), nausea,vomiting and abdominal pain. In some cases, a Salmonella infection can infiltrate the bloodstream and producearterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
As of yet, no illnesses incurred by the teas have beenreported.
The recalled teas are:
- the Milk Lady’s Herbal Tea Blend, its UPC number is 7 99632 05658 4 and the recalled batch’s lot number is # ML6271950;
- the Peaceful Baby Herbal Tea Blend, which has UPC number 7 99632 05656 0 and the recalled batch’s lot number is #PB781950;
- and the Diges-Teas Herbal Tea Blend, with UPC number 7 99632 05665 2 from batch lot number #DT7619100.
The teas were recalled because they contain recalled fennelseed that was supplied by Mountain Rose Herbs in Oregon. Mountain Mel’s haltedproduction and distribution of the teas containing this fennel seed on July 20,2019.
The three teas were distributed across the United States andalso sold on Mountain Mel’s website and on Amazon. Customers who purchased teasfrom any of the recalled batches are urged to take a photo of the product andlot label and email it to [email protected] for a full refund.
