COLUMBUS, Ohio - In three years, Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea expects to be a much bigger presence. The company has recently announced plans for a $1.1 million expansion to a second building as well as the intent to double the number of employees.
The company’s current headquarters is at 700 Alum Creek Dr. and the new space will be just down the road at 1925 Alum Creek Dr. The second facility will expand manufacturing capacity and will house a research and development center. There are currently 20 employees at Crimson Cup and the 20 new staff will be in warehouse, R&D and roasting jobs.
Crimson Cup was founded in 1991 and has always called Columbus home. The founder/CEO Greg Ubert launched the company a few years after graduating from college, deciding that although working in computer software might be financially rewarding it wasn’t inspiring him. He dubbed the company “Crimson Cup,” referencing the red berries on coffee trees and the official color of his alma mater Harvard. The company currently distributes to 350 companies in 30 states. While coffee has been their prime driver for the past twenty years, Crimson Cup started a line of loose leaf tea in 2012 and introduced loose leaf tea sachets in 2013.
