Raleigh, N.C.-based Gamila hopes its latest product, Teastick Gems, will entice a younger market into the world of loose-leaf teas.
The 3-in-1 scoop, measuring device and infuser replaces traditional pots and single-serve infuser balls. Gems come in translucent colors. With fine stainless steel mesh, the Gems are designed for single servings of smaller teas and herbal blends. According to a press release, Gamila believes the product offers “modern convenience and style at an affordable price.” Gamila will sell Gems, whose MSRP is $12, for approximately 35 percent less than their predecessor, the original Teastick. Price and color aren’t the only differences between the two products. Gems are made with Tritan, a new polymer designed for food service, while the original Teastick was made of stainless steel. Tritan, a BPA-free, heat-resistant substance, has already been used for products by CamelBak, Nalgene and Vita-Mix, according to Gamila. The company’s products can be purchased through its Web site.
