by WTN Staff Tea blenders take note: Chicago-based market research firm Mintel has released its flavor predictions for 2010, and they include some surprisingly spicy tastes. The firm identified six flavors as potential trends for the coming year:
Because it is rich in dietary fiber, beta carotene and vitamins C and B6, sweet potato may be the next big thing in functional ingredients, Mintel noted. The Amazonian cupuacu, meanwhile, may fill that role in the super fruit category. Exotic Latin spices and cardamom are starting to show up in unexpected places like chocolate bars and shrimp cocktails. And hibiscus and rose water are likely to hit the beverage market, according to Mintel.
