Ampm, a chain of convenience stores owned by BP, is launching its own line of RTD teas called Essence. For the month of June, the company is running a $2-for-two-bottles promotion to raise awareness of the new beverages, which are already available in Western U.S. ampm stores. The company expects to launch Essence in the eastern market this fall. The regular price for a 20-ounce bottle is $1.49. Essence is produced by Intellibev exclusively for ampm, according to BP spokesman Scott Dean. A product announcement said all four flavors – green with ginseng and honey, white with lemon, black with peach and black with raspberry – consist of "all natural teas ... steeped with green, white or black tea leaves in the production process to ensure a natural flavor from the tea solids and sweetened with cane sugar, not high-fructose corn syrup, resulting in a beverage that is less than 100 calories per serving." "Ready-to-drink tea sales were among the fastest growing sub-categories of packaged beverages in our stores," said BP Vice President of Marketing for Convenience Retail Andrew Baird in a statement. "In addition, our fountain sales of the Essence green tea were strong, indicating a market ripe for a beverage with natural, premium ingredients."
