have affected tea auctions in Calcutta, Guwahati
and Siliguri — the three main centres in north
India. The enquiries from Maharashtra are subdued
and uncertainty looms large on the tea industry
because of continuing rains. The subdued enquiry
has forced the Calcutta tea auctions to be
postponed by a day. “The auction centres will

the Calcutta Tea Traders’ Association said.

| Everything Iced by Lynn Mallard, owner of
Peaberry's Coffee and Tea |
 |
|
The warm days of summer are upon us and that means
“Everything Iced” at Peaberry’s. This year we have
introduced some wonderful new coffee and tea drinks to
broaden our hot weather menu. One Hundred Years of Iced
Tea Few people realize that the advent of icing tea was
an unplanned event. It started on a steamy day at the
1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. In an effort to boost the
lagging sales in his hot tea booth, a young man borrowed
some ice from the adjacent ice cream vendor to cool down
his tea. Now, 100 years later, iced tea is one of the
fastest growing segments of the tea market. Throughout
the summer, Peaberry’s is offering three teas on ice
every day: a traditional black, a green, and an
herbal/non-caffeinated tea. The selection rotates every
two weeks to give customers an opportunity to experience
how delicious our range of full leaf teas are when
prepared iced. Look for jasmine pearl, organic vanilla
rooibos, and Ostfriesen Breakfast

Pile |
 |
|
KOCHI, JULY 31: The global tea market has agreed to
abide by ISO 3720, a quality parameter that only India
has implemented through its Prevention of Food
Adulteration (PFA) norms, as it is burdened with a heavy
stock of inferior quality material creating a wide
demand-supply gap.
At the recent 16th session of FAO inter- governmental
group conference held in Bali, delegates of the
governments representing tea- producing and consuming
countries felt that by 2014 there would be excess supply
of 92mkg of tea in the global market.
